Church Records

Registers

Our churches only hold our current registers of baptisms, marriages and funerals.

Completed registers are sent to the Northumberland County Archives for safe-keeping and you should contact them for more information and to obtain copies. Click here for more information.

Copies of birth, marriage and death certificates can be obtained here.
If you believe that we might hold a more recent record, we can search any registers we might have.  There is a fee for this, as detailed at http://www.cofe.anglican.org/lifeevents/fees/

In addition, if you are looking for baptism records at Spittal, there is a complete list in frames by the font in St John's church.  Please come and join us for Sunday worship and then feel free to search through the list.

Family History

If you are trying to trace your family history, a good place to look is the Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office, a branch of the Northumberland Archives.  Their contact details are:

Berwick-upon-Tweed Record Office
Walkergate Building,
Walkergate,
Berwick TD15 1DB
Tel: 01289 301865
Fax: 01289 330540
E-mail: berwickarchives@northumberland.gov.uk

The resources they hold are listed on the pdf document, to be found at http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com/berwick-record/ and at the Woodhorn Museum and Northumberland Archives, http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com/family-history/

They show that the records go back to the following dates:

Tweedmouth
Spittal
Scremerston
Baptism (Christening)
1711
1873
1843
Marriages
1711
1874
1845
Burials
1711
1873
1843
Also, members of Tweedmouth Parish Church have recently been cataloguing the graves around the church.  The list should be compiled and available soon - and there should be a copy at the Berwick Record Office (details as above).
